Simple Ways to Dress for Success in Your First Job

Dress for Success

When it comes to dressing up your look for work, a little goes a long way. (Plus, these easy steps will enhance your confidence instantly in the office.) If you keep reading, you will see just how easy it is to dress for success!

My professional headshot

There’s something about someone who looks put together at the office. With just a glance, you can see they exude flair, confidence, and strength. That confident person could be YOU if you dress for success.

A few basic methods may instantly improve your appearance. With these tips, you’ll be well on your way to proving to the world that you are a strong boss lady. The word elevate is defined as “raising or lifting (something) up to a higher position.” Elevating your style, then, entails putting together clothing in a way that “raises” your appearance. What’s more, this boosts your confidence since you immediately feel more self-assured, sophisticated, and invincible. Here’s how it’s done:

Add More Layers

Using layers, like a blazer, is an easy way to add complexity and sophistication to your overall outfit. It’s a timeless classic that will never go out of fashion. If you worked with me, you would notice that I always like blazers. I like to wear a patterned top with a solid blazer or a solid top with a patterned blazer. My white blazer is from Express and my patterned blazer is from Macy’s. Both were from a few years ago, so those specific ones are not available anymore. However, both retailers still have some great similar styles! You may also wear a plain shirt with jewelry or a fun jacket to show off your personality. These are just a few options for attempting this very simple hack.

Put On Heels

With the perfect heels, you may feel unstoppable and it can completely change your look as you can see below. Personally, I prefer heeled ankle boots. This specific pair is low and has a block heel, so you can wear these for the most of the day without losing comfort. In my book, that’s a tremendous plus! The last thing you want is to be in pain and unable to move after only a few hours – I’ve been there. That’s not to say you shouldn’t wear taller heels; just make sure they’re comfortable for you! Block heels are the best for this, in my opinion.

Finalize With Your Favorite Lipstick

Wearing one of your favorite lipsticks is one of the simplest ways to dress for success and transform your look. Even if you don’t wear heels or layers, a touch of crimson or your favorite lipstick is enough to create a statement. Red lipstick has limitless potential, but I prefer dark pinks. Bold lipstick quickly transforms you into the most self-assured person in the room. You’re stunning, you demand attention, and you’re full of determination. Red lipstick was popularized by superstars like Marilyn Monroe and Lucille Ball in I Love Lucy. I feel so classy when I wear red lipstick; it’s like a more confident version of myself. For the office, I think the dark pink feels powerful and a little more professional.
